We are delighted to be speaking with Kevin Barton, Director of Robert Bray Associates.
For the second of our series of podcasts, we are delighted to present a conversation with Kevin Barton one of the Directors of Robert Bray Associates. Through innovative and creative SuDs designs, this Landscape Architects practice and SuDs specialists bring to life the possibilities of integrating aesthetic and multifunctional SuDs schemes into a variety if complex retrofit and new built contexts. We have had the opportunity to work with Kevin on the Goldhawk Road scheme in Hammersmith and Fulham, London. In this interview, Kevin discusses the challenges of working around existing infrastructure – highways, underground services and utilities. Kevin details the importance of the flexibility of systems used in SuDs schemes. Kevin’s insightful description of SuDs as “contagious” reflects the increasingly widespread adoption of water sensitive urban design principles and SuDs across the UK. Here at GreenBlue Urban, we are in agreement with Robert Bray Associates, that more needs to be done to showcase the potential of creative SuDs, including high quality SuDs compatible tree pits designed for the challenging schemes that lie before us. We have watched with great admiration as Robert Bray Associates have pioneered approaches originally to be found in the US and have worked closely with the private and public sector to move away from conventional stormwater management approaches and to deliver more for less.
